| Hi, I'm Dan and I never update my Xanga...

| Schroedinger's Box
Imagine, if you will, a cat is stuck inside a box. You see that the cat is alive when the box is shut. You are then told that there is poison gas inside the box and it will be released if a particular atom decays. There is a 50/50 chance the atom will decay in one hour. So you walk away for an hour and return. Is the cat dead? Or is the cat alive? The average person would say "It's a fifty-fifty chance wether it is dead or alive." But the quantum physicist would disagree. They would say the cat is simultaneously dead and alive, since one is just as likely as the other.
I think this illustrates my love/hate relationship with quantum mechanics. I can simultaneously like doing the homework while looking at my watch and realizing I've been working at it for... six hours. Straight. | | |
| Nearly another month rolls by... I'm getting better at this updating thing...
What to say, what to say... School is challenging, as ever, but I have
friends in nearly all my classes and the one I don't is a real break
from the rest. I have to agree with Damon, if I were to drop out
of engineering, I would be a philosophy major. We were working on
our lab report as we discussed this when Mike asked "What would you do
then?" to which Damon replied "I dunno, go to law school."
That's good to hear, especially when I plan on doing that anyway.
However, to all those phil majors out there, I am truly envious.
Roommates have been doing well. Ever since the release of Civ 4
there has been much yellling between rooms, mocking each other. I
am seriously contemplating never moving again. This place is
comfy, convenient, what more could I want?
All things considered, things are okay. Could be better, but that
gives us reason to work all that much harder, doesn't it? Party
on, Wayne.

| A little over two months later, Dan gets off his Xanga ass...
School is going ... okay... I ended up overloading myself this
semester, so I've been forced to drop a class. A serious bummer,
but it had to be done. Everyone, including my advisor, has
essentially told me I am nuts for trying to do what I was, so that's
some consolation. On the whole, I am enjoying my remaining
classes. Fall break is coming up, so I am looking forward to a
total void of responsibility, to be filled with partying so much it has
to be sacrilegious, as well as the Bloodhound Gang concert, which I am
pleased to say that Pacey will probably be joining us for. If
anyone is in town the next few days, the aqua vitae will be flowing
like water, so come on over

| It is time to recap the MT. We left Saturday at about 11:30. Dr. Kim was late coming back from Seoul due to traffic. We drove for about two hours before stopping for lunch; the main course was raw fish, and was quite delicious. We then took a boat to a small island only ten minutes offshore. We checked into two rooms, the ten of us did. The afternoon was spent playing on the rock shore. After getting a little burnt, we started to dig up some clams to have for dinner. Meanwhile a couple of guys were fishing. We barbecued for dinner, having massive amounts of bacon and ribs, as well as a healthy portion of soju and beer. There were fireworks, karaoke and dancing. All in all, quite a good time. I sang a Beatles song myself, much to the amusement of the crowd. Yun-Jin and I retired early, my body not appreciating the aqua-vitae. Then the curse of the sauna struck again; I was woken up by the guy sleeping next to me rolling over and waking me up. And this time there was no getting back to sleep; Dr. Kim’s snoring and the lack of a mattress made sure of that. The next morning we had breakfast served to us. There wasn’t much time do much of anything before we left, but Alex, Woo-Yeol and I all went on a little hike while the rest of the guys were fishing. We got a nice view of the dock they were fishing next to as well as a nearby town. We finished the MT with a nice dinner of duck in Cheonam. All things considered, it was quite a good time. | | |
